Keyang Wu's Artistic Path

Born in 1973 in Minnan, Fujian Province, China, Keyang Wu's artistic path was profoundly nurtured by his early immersion in traditional Chinese culture, a cultural accumulation that laid the foundation for his future outstanding works that continue to explore the life of the universe.

Travelling through the halls of academia,Keyang Wu studied at Xiamen University's School of Fine Arts, where he continued to refine his skills in the medium of oil painting. With a deep passion for art, his creations now encompass eighteen series, making him an important figure in the field of contemporary Chinese oil painting that cannot be ignored.

Keyang Wu's artistic explorations are characterised by a classical style, with a particular emphasis on the texture of the sculpted figure - a hallmark of his early ‘sculpture and casting’ works. However, through his natural ability to imbue these classical forms with a sense of transcendence, he has distinguished himself in the field of contemporary art.

On his way to winning Chinese and international acclaim step by step, Wu Keyang has contributed a series of notable landmark works to the world ...... including some of his representative works being included by the General Administration of Postal Service of China in the 2016 Chinese Contemporary Oil Painting Masterpieces Collector's Postal Album.

In 2023, Keyang Wu held a solo exhibition at the Palazzo Pisani in Venice, Italy, becoming the first Chinese artist to hold a solo exhibition there in a century.

The core of Keyang Wu's artistic philosophy is the fusion of his exploration of Eastern philosophy and Western artistic techniques. Through his travels in Europe since 2009, his immersive experiences in Chinese historical and cultural sites, and his insights and analyses of different spatial and temporal dimensions, he has developed a deep understanding of the mysteries of the universe and the nature of existence from the artist's perspective. 2015's serious illness and several life-and-death tests became the turning point of Wu Keyang's painting career, and his near-death experiences brought him a more profound and unique insight into life and inspiration for his artistic creations. Keyang Wu's works, the series ‘Body Sense’, ‘Mouth Sense’, ‘Consciousness’, ‘Collection’ and ‘Illusory Space’, created with the idea of ‘Oriental Spiritual Painting’ as the main theme, contain deep introspection, all of which are his profound reflections on life, nature and the universe. Every brushstroke he creates is filled with cosmic energy, transcending the boundaries of traditional art and providing viewers with glimpses into the unspeakable depths of existence.

With the opening of a five-year solo exhibition touring Europe, Keyang Wu's artistic exploration will continue to attract a global audience. Zhenru Liang (梁真如)Artist and independent curator, he received his Master's degree in Visual Arts from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, where he was a teaching assistant for the Sculpture Department programme in the 2019 academic year, and is currently pursuing his research at the School of Contextual Art at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Participated in the group programme of the Venice Biennale in 2022 and 2023, and in numerous international art residencies including Berlin, Athens, Girona, Prague, Rome, Sicily, among others. He has co-founded the art association forme in Milan and has curated numerous events and exhibitions, including ‘Habitable Sculpture’, a teaching programme for the Sculpture Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera for the academic year 2020.
