In Florence, the heart of the Italian Renaissance, one family's name resounds profoundly – the Medici. They were not merely bankers and politicians, but also great patrons of Renaissance art.

The Medici family's glory began with banking. Through shrewd business acumen, they spread their financial networks across Europe.
But what truly etched the Medici name in history was their generous patronage of art. Master artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael were all once honored guests of the family. Under their sponsorship, the artistic blooms of the Renaissance flourished more brilliantly.

Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici founded the Medici Bank in 1397, marking the beginning of the glorious era of the Medici family.

He was the first documented patron in the family. Since 1401, he sponsored the bronze sculptor Ghiberti as a member of the Public Council to build two bronze doors for the Baptistery of the Florence Cathedral (Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore). He also sponsored Ghiberti in his capacity as an important leader of the Wool Guild to complete two bronze statues St. John and St. Matthew, as well as the subsequent St. Stephen.

Giovanni lived a simple and low-key life, but he spared no effort in patronizing art."Money can be transformed into permanent art through sponsorship, thus obtaining an opportunity to approach another eternal world."This was the truth he realized in his later years, and he used it to educate his descendants.

We cannot say that there would be no Italian Renaissance without the Medici family, but it is certain that the Italian Renaissance would not be what we see today without them. Now, as we stroll through the world's art galleries and admire the masterpieces of the Renaissance, we should not forget the Medici family hidden behind them. With their wealth and power, they gave wings to art, allowing the light of the Renaissance to illuminate the entire world.

From the Medici family igniting the torch of the Renaissance to the Uffizi Gallery preserving millennial artistic treasures, Florence has always been a holy land yearned for by artists from both East and West. On this land, the artistic legends woven by patrons and creators have never ended.From July to August 2025, for a whole month, Mr. Keyang Wu is about to set foot on this magical land and hold a grand international painting exhibition in Florence.He will bring the profound philosophy and delicate brushstrokes of Oriental art to dialogue with the artistic spiritual heritage left by the Medici family, allowing the artistic rhythms from the ancient East to shine in harmony with the brilliant light of the Renaissance. This will continue to write a new chapter of art across time and space, injecting unique cultural vitality into this eternal city!
