The birthplace of the Renaissance movement - Florence (2)

Florentine School

The essence of the Renaissance is ideological liberation. As the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence, therefore, also gave birth to its art genre, Florence School.

The Florentine School of Painting was formed at the end of the 13th century. Its early representative painters include Giotto di Bondona, Masaccio, Angelico, Uccello, Botticelli, etc. Representative painters in his prime include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael.

During the period of the rise of the bourgeoisie, humanistic ideas had taken a dominant position. This trend of thought promoted the application of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture techniques in painting, and changed the decorative style of medieval planes to the use of concentrated perspective, light and dark effects, and painting methods that express three-dimensional space. At the same time, painters paid attention to sketch modeling and used scientific methods to explore the modeling rules of the human body. In their works with religious mythology as the theme, they depicted abstract gods as ideal figures that met the requirements of the emerging bourgeoisie, and successfully created a new style of figure painting.

From the 15th to the 16th century, the Florentine School of Painting reached its peak and became one of the important representatives of the European Renaissance. During this period, Florence was home to numerous talents and masters, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael, who all left immortal masterpieces during this period. The prosperity of the Florentine School not only left a rich artistic heritage for future generations, but also wrote a glorious page in the history of Western art. However, by the end of the 16th century, as Florence lost political power and economic decline, and the painters followed the styles of the previous masters too much, the painting school gradually moved towards Mannerism. Despite this, the status and influence of the Florentine School in the history of Western art cannot be ignored.
