Plague and Rebirth
Although Milan was fortunately spared the plague epidemic of 1349, the city was severely traumatized by subsequent plagues in 1402, 1542, 1576 and 1629. These plague epidemics brought great suffering and losses to Milan, killing tens of thousands of residents and causing severe damage to social and economic development.
